Loft Conversion Info
The first question to ask yourself is, are you going to need Planning Permission?
The government changed the rules in 2008 to allow many developments to be completed without the need for lengthy planning permission under a scheme called Permitted Development.
The basic rule of thumb to determine whether or not you require Full Planning Permission is how much cubic content you have left on your home. This is called Permitted Development – a Terraced house (including end of terrace) have 40 cubic meters and semi and detached houses have 50 cubic meters allowance to add.
If your home already had extension of some kind added to your property since it was first built, then we need to add the cubic content of that extension together with your new loft conversion. If this number is over the allowance outlined above then Full Planning Permission will be needed.
You also need to consider if you are going to need a Party Wall Agreement.
